Michael Lacey is an American Professor of mathematics born September 26, 1959. Lacey holds a Bachelors of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Texas which he acquired in 1981. Michael Lacey under the supervision of Walter Phillip decided to research the area of probability in Banach spaces which helped him solve a mathematical problem related to the law of iterated logarithm for empirical characteristics function. After this accomplishment, Lacey received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1987.
Michael Lacey began his teaching career at the Louisiana state university and later moved to the University of North Carolina where he continued his research on various mathematical problems. Together with his supervisor Walter Phillip, they gave proof of the almost sure central limit theorem.
Michael Lacey left the University of North Carolina and joined Indiana University where he worked for seven years. While there, he got the opportunity to explore his full potential after he received a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the National Science Foundation. He immediately began to study the bilinear Hilbert transform. This transform had earlier come about when Mr. Lacey and Christoph Thiele solved a conjecture by Albert Calderon for which they received the Salem Prize. Mr. Lacey has won many prestigious awards for his contributions to mathematics such as Guggenheim Fellowship, Simons Fellow, and the American Mathematical Society Fellow.
Michael Lacey is currently a Professor of mathematics at Georgia Institute of mathematics where he mentors undergraduates in the path to going to graduate school. He has held many top positions at the institution such as faculty advisor to the American Mathematical Society Student Chapter and chairman of the school of mathematics hiring committee. He has also been the organizer in charge of mentoring for program high-dimensional approximation, a member of the college science committee and member of the junior promotion and tenure committee.
Michael Lacey continues with his wondrous works in Mathematics. He has been able to mentor and advise many students who have either joined the world of business or the field of academia. He continues with his researches in probability and harmonic analysis.
